Disney World Must Do: Festival of Fantasy Parade

Festival of Fantasy - a Disney World Must-Do!

-by Lisa

One of the best things Walt Disney World brought us in 2014 was the Festival of Fantasy Parade.  I love it!  Of all the parades I’ve seen anywhere, Festival of Fantasy is absolutely the most beautiful and exciting.  The perfect mix of classic characters and modern style, Festival of Fantasy is more than just a parade - it’s actually a work of art!  If you haven’t seen it and you’re thinking “seen one, seen ‘em all”, I’d have to respectfully say, “you’re wrong!”.

Rolling most days at 3:00 pm through the Magic Kingdom, the Festival of Fantasy Parade is a feast for the eyes literally from the ground up.  If you’re planning to experience this wonderful parade for the first time in 2015, don’t miss these incredible details.

Each float has walking characters that help set the scene.  Ariel’s float has dancing characters that embody seashells and coral, for example. The parade’s music also changes as it moves along - which I love and is a very welcome change from the old Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade.

One of my favorite walking characters is the Mime from Tangled - he’s hilarious!  The Tangled float is also a crowd pleaser.  Modeled after the Snuggly Duckling, the float features Tangled Characters, including Flynn Rider on a pendulum, smoldering at the audience as he swings to and fro.

Of course the Peter Pan float is accompanied by the Lost Boys and the Crocodile.

The Brave float (giant bagpipes) has Scottish dancers.

The highlight of the parade has to be Maleficent.  She’s an enormous steampunk fire-breathing dragon!  This float is brilliant!  Every detail is amazing!

All this and I’ve barely shown you anything!  You’ve just got to see this parade for yourself to appreciate its amazingness.  The FastPass+ seating area for the Festival of Fantasy Parade is in the center of the hub, facing Cinderella Castle.  We like sitting on the hub on the Tomorrowland side if possible, but I know everyone has their own favorite parade-viewing spots.  Go where you think you’ll have the best view.  If you’re not using a FastPass for the parade, you should probably find a place to sit 30-45 minutes (or more, depending on crowds) before parade time and be prepared to stand your ground - we always have latecomers that try to shove their way in front of or even between us at the last minute.  That’s a personal pet-peeve and I’ll save that discussion for another day.

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World, add the Festival of Fantasy Parade to your day in Magic Kingdom!  If you’ve seen Festival of Fantasy, what did you think about it?
